We are beginning siman 13. If one makes a bracha in an enclosed area, such as a field, the bracha extends throughout the enclosure, as we have learned earlier (shiur 1150). However, if the person is nimlach, they would need to make a new bracha. Nimlach is a form of hesech hadaas, in which a person decides their meal is over. A true nimlach can sometimes be tricky to apply, because many people will decide they are finished eating, only to continue eating a few moments later. However, if one truly decided they were finished eating, and then changed their mind and decided to eat more, they would need to make a new bracha.

ָThe Chayei Adam applies nimlach here in that if a person had specific daas to only eat in a certain spot in the field (e.g., under a shady tree, etc.), if they decide to eat in another place, they would be considered nimlach and would require a new bracha rishona. If one had no specific daas either way, they would be covered throughout the enclosure, but since over here, the person had specific daas to limit themselves, they are considered nimlach.

In siman 14, the Chayei Adam writes that if one goes from one enclosed area to another, it is akin to going from mi’bayis le’bayis, and they would require a new bracha, as we have learned previously (see shiur 1142)

Summary

  • If one makes a bracha in an enclosed area, their bracha extends throughout the enclosure, unless they specifically had daas to limit their bracha to a specific makom .
    • If one goes from one enclosed area to another, they would require a new bracha.
